‘He Thinks He Is God’- Kompany Slammed For Poor Anderlecht Form

Vincent Kompany has been slammed by former Belgium striker Marc Degryse after Anderlecht’s poor start to the season.

Kompany exited Manchester City at the end of last season to become player-manager at his boyhood club but so far his tenure has been anything but fruitful, failing to win any of his four league games and losing embarrassingly to Kortrijk last weekend.

Such is Anderlecht’s poor form; they lie 13th in the 16-team league despite recruiting the likes of Samir Nasri, Nacer Chadli and Kemar Roofe over the summer.

At the age of 33, Kompany is still a full-time Belgium international and is set to be part of Roberto Martinez’s squad for matches against San Marino and Scotland in the upcoming international break.

Degryse, who played for Anderlecht and Sheffield Wednesday, believes it is about time Kompany took time out of international football to focus on his duties at club level.

"Kompany is only human, besides being a good footballer - but I feel he thinks he is God,” Degryse told HLN.

"In the coming international break a coach would normally have two weeks to work intensively with his squad.

"But Kompany will be off with Belgium to play San Marino and Scotland - before having his testimonial game in Manchester.

"Some people like to be busy, but they can become too preoccupied.

"Kompany should think about this. There are limits to everything.

"If another centre-back had made the mistakes he made he'd have been criticised - and Kompany would have dropped him for the next game.

"Of course Kompany shouldn't retire from playing - but he has to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.

"If he is honest as a manager he can't be happy with himself as a player."
